'Empowerment Through Employment’ will bring together employment specialists, IDD and behavioral health providers, advocates, employers and state agency staff to strengthen efforts to educate and employ Alaskans with disabilities and/or behavioral health disorders.

Alaska is an ‘Employment First’ state and employment in the general workforce should be the first and preferred option for individuals with disabilities receiving assistance from publicly funded systems. The first goal of this conference is to engage community stakeholders and policy makers to revitalize and initiate implementation of Employment First strategies.

Alaskans with mental health and substance use disorders may benefit from supportive employment services to help improve their health outcomes, treatment and recovery efforts. The second goal of this conference is to discuss efforts to implement the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) service model in Alaska for improved employment efforts for people with serious behavioral health issues.

This conference is a joint effort led by the Alaska Mental Health Trust, with partnership from community stakeholders and Alaska Department of Health & Social Services, Department of Education & Early Development, and the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

This two-day conference agenda will have a mix of guest speakers, local subject matter experts and advocate and employer panels. This conference is free for all participants.

Thank you Partners!
